Beginning Quilting Supply List
Learn how to cut with a rotary cutter and ruler, how to make a true 1/4" seam, measure and cut borders, how to layer your layers, how to quilt, and even how to bind! Janet will tell you all the hints, tips and tricks, and show you lots of gadgets to help you along. You'll make a sampler quilt.

We will cut this quilt in class!

  • Cutting Mat (24" x 36" is best)

  • Rotary cutter 45mm

  • A good Quilting Ruler 6-1/2" x 24" (or 6" x 24")

  • "Start Quilting with Alex Anderson" Book

  • Fabric as per book

  • Thread - Mettler 100% Cotton Silk Finish

  • Needles Size 80/12

  • Sewing notions (scissors, pins, seam rippers)

  • Your machine in good working order

  • 1/4" piecing foot

  • A walking foot to fit your machine

  • A freemotion quilting foot (darning foot)

  • Backing and binding for the quilt (see pattern back)

  • Safety pins to baste quilt with

  • Crib size batting, 2 yards of muslin for practicing quilting

  • Batting to fit your quilt size (see pattern)

Things you will probably want to have:

  • A Pair of Machin'gers (Quilting Gloves)

  • Invisigrip (Sticks onto rulers so they don't slide)

  • Ruler Guard (to protect your fingers from that rotary cutter!)

  • A 6-1/2" Square Ruler

  • A can of 505 Spray
