$5 Quilt Club
We
had a large number of newbies this year -- which is exciting! If you
have any questions about your block, be sure to come by or call --
we'd love to help! A couple of notes:
1) For the Snow Show block, cut the border pieces from the really
long, skinny, 23" pieces as per the directions in Block #1.
2) If you are using the 1-1/2" Triangle Papers, you won't be
cutting any of the 2-3/8" squares -- you'll be using the
Triangle Papers instead. Call if you have questions.
3) Hang onto your large floral scraps if you're doing Fuji Flowers
because eight of the blocks will use one of the large floral pieces.
February and March:
Note: I'm sorry that the fabrics shown below are
not from the blocks this month, but I forgot to bring home some scraps!
How to make flying geese units:
Layer one background rectangle
(3-1/2" x 2" piece) of fabric and one of the 2" squares
right sides together as shown below. Sew diagonally across the 2"
square as shown. You can use a Sew Easy Guide as I did in the photo (or
some other tool such as the Angler 2), or you can draw a line with a
pencil from corner to corner to follow while you're sewing. I like to
start sewing in the direction shown to keep the sewing machine from
"eating" the corners of your blocks.

Your block should look like this now:

Press the square up to the corner. DO NOT SKIP
THIS STEP!

Flip up the corner and cut all the layers
underneath:

Sew diagonally across the second square as you
did the first time:

Press up the second corner, and trim as before.
You should have a 1/4" seam allowance at the top of the block. Not
too bad, huh? Voila!
